How that affects this list. Products from brands we have a commercial relationship with are listed first. Products we earn little or nothing from can still appear, lower down, when they belong in the comparison.
How the order is set. The top three slots are named picks — best overall, most popular, best value — and each states the measurement it won on. Every product after them is ordered by one fixed formula: the Amazon star rating and review count, applied identically. No brand can pay for a slot, a badge or a score.

Why trust this list
We do not rate these ourselves. Every claim on this page is tied to public Amazon rating and review-theme data, and carries the count it came from.
Mold control means holding a room below 60% humidity for months, and a dehumidifier that stops when its tank fills cannot do that. WinnerReviews counted 67 of 164 mentions of tank size and emptying positive across 4 of these 5 units, 41%. Every unit on this page has a drain hose; connect it, and the tank stops being the reason the room gets damp again.
67 of 164 mentions, 4 of 5 units
Mold grows in bedrooms and bathrooms as well as basements, and a dehumidifier keeping one dry runs through the night. WinnerReviews found 346 of 370 noise mentions positive across all 5 units on this page, 94%. Better than the category's reputation, but if it is going in a room you sleep in, give the noise counts on each card more weight than the star rating.
346 of 370 mentions, all 5 units
WinnerReviews counted 13 of 28 durability and reliability mentions positive on the only unit here where Amazon publishes the theme, 46%. A dehumidifier that dies in a closed room does not announce it; the humidity just climbs. A cheap standalone hygrometer is the simplest way to notice.

Pick it if the mold is in a bedroom or living room, where it has to run quietly all night
Skip it if you can't use the hose — miss emptying its small tank and it stops protecting the room

Overview
This is our top pick against mold, because the room that grows it is so often one you sleep or work in: a bedroom with condensation on the windows, a bathroom that never quite dries. Quiet operation is the theme its owners praise most, and quiet is what lets a dehumidifier run all night, when bedroom humidity climbs. It lets you set the target as low as forty percent, comfortably inside the range that keeps mold from growing, and the hose for continuous draining comes in the box.
Two things to weigh. The tank is small, and owners without the hose empty it about twice a day; miss one and the machine stops. And one owner reports humidity hovering in the mid-sixties after a month, above the line where mold grows, which is a reminder to check the room with a separate hygrometer rather than trust the display. Its listing does not say it restarts after a power cut, so look at it after an outage.

Overview
This is the pick for a small damp room, a bathroom, a closet or a bedroom where condensation keeps coming back. Owners describe it as whisper quiet, quick to make a difference to the air, and good enough that one buyer added a second unit. It restarts after a power cut and remembers its settings, its humidity control goes down to thirty percent, and the drain hose is included, which between them cover the ways a dehumidifier silently stops protecting a room.
The caution is scale. It is rated for a room rather than a floor, and its pint figure comes from the hottest test, so it will pull less in a cool space than the box suggests. Its record is also short, a few hundred ratings, and every theme scoring positive is as much a sign of a young listing as of a flawless one. For a bathroom or a closet it is the easiest recommendation on this page.
Amazon scores every review theme on this listing positive, so its data gives us no complaint to report. That is worth weighing alongside how few ratings it has.

Pick it if you want one damp room held at a sensible humidity straight out of the box
Skip it if you need it to run for years untouched — reliability is mixed

One owner bought this for a mold problem and reports, almost a year on, that the humidity is down and the mold problems are gone, which is the outcome this page is about. Its Auto mode targets fifty percent by default, so it is set sensibly out of the box, and another owner checked its readings against separate humidity monitors and found they matched. It is quiet, rolls on wheels between rooms and looks tidy enough to leave out.
Size is the theme owners split on: it is smaller than many expect, with a tank under a gallon, so the drain hose matters. Reliability is mixed too, with one owner reporting it stopped working after a year. Its listing does not mention restarting after a power cut, so if you are away often, check on it after a storm. For one room it is a sound buy; for a whole basement, the DECIUU further down is built for the job.

DECIUU is the high-capacity option here, built for a whole basement or a crawlspace, and its owners report results that land squarely in the range that keeps mold from growing. One describes a basement coming down to a comfortable level within a day or two and holding there; another runs it on auto and reports the room staying steady. It restarts after a power cut, which matters in a space nobody visits every day.
Its humidity floor is also its one quirk: an owner who wanted the room drier found it shuts off at thirty-five percent and goes no lower, which matters only for a storage room you want bone dry. The real complaints are about water handling, with a tank owners wish were bigger and a drain connection some find fiddly, so check the hose sits snugly before you leave it running. We rank it below the units above only because we have no affiliate link for it.

Vellgoo has the fewest ratings on this page, and the owners it does have are unusually happy with it. They describe it as quiet, compact for its capacity and quick to pull moisture out, with a slim shape that looks better in a living space than the usual bulky box. It restarts itself after a power cut and drains through an included hose, and owners point out that it costs less than comparable units.
Two owner reports are worth reading before you buy it for mold. One, in a small house with a basement, says it rarely gets the air below fifty percent, and another describes it running around the clock without reaching the target. That is inside the safe range, but not the dry end of it. With so few ratings we would treat it as promising rather than proven, and it sits low here because we have no affiliate link for it.

Mold needs moisture, and a dehumidifier takes moisture out of the air, which is why it belongs in any plan to deal with mold. What it does not do is kill or remove mold that is already growing. The EPA's guidance is to clean up the mold and fix the water problem that caused it; drying the air comes after that, to stop it returning.
So treat the machine as the maintenance step. Clean visible growth first, deal with the leak, the missing vent fan or the condensation that started it, and then run the dehumidifier to keep the room below the level where mold can grow back.
If a musty smell returns after the room has been dry for weeks, there is usually growth somewhere you have not cleaned, inside a wall, under carpet or behind stored boxes, rather than a dehumidifier that has stopped working.
The EPA's line for indoor humidity is below 60%, ideally between 30% and 50%. Every unit on this page can be set inside that range, so the lowest setting is rarely what separates them. What separates them is whether they keep holding it when nobody is watching.
Humidity control, restart and drainage, from each listing

| SEMKAP 32 Pint | 30% | Yes | Included |
| KNKA 34 Pint | 30% (Auto mode holds 50%) | Not stated | Included |

| Vellgoo 64 Pint | 40% | Yes | Included |
As stated on each product's Amazon listing when we collected it, summer 2026. "Not stated" means the listing does not say, not that the feature is missing.
Two features do that. Continuous drainage, because a full tank stops the machine and the room drifts back up. And automatic restart after a power cut, because a dehumidifier that stays off after a storm does nothing until someone notices. Three of these listings state automatic restart; the other two do not say either way.
The low end is real, too: one DECIUU owner found it will not go below its 35% floor, which only matters if you want a storage room drier than mold needs.
The humidity reading on a dehumidifier comes from a sensor on the machine, so it tells you about the air around the unit, not the corner behind the bookcase where mold starts. A cheap standalone hygrometer, placed in the dampest spot, tells you whether the room as a whole is below the line.
One KNKA owner did exactly that and found the built-in reading matched. Others report rooms staying damper than they wanted: an AEOCKY owner describes humidity hovering around 64% after a month of running, above the line where mold can grow, and a Vellgoo owner says the air rarely gets below 50%. Only a second reading shows you which of those you have.
